Meeting Summary

Dr. Ann Ojeda led our meeting on writing a scoping review on well water research. We had 11 participants gathered on zoom on Feb. 5th from several fields that are interested in participating in the review. Dr. Ojeda followed the above agenda which included introducing the goal of the review, authorship, a draft Statement of Task, organization/next steps, an expected timeline, and suggestions for writing working groups.

It was emphasized during the meeting that this is an evolving collaborative effort and members should reach out to Dr. Ojeda or Nicole Tripp (email below) if questions, comments, or concerns arise throughout the review.

Goal of Review

  1. To review the state-of-the-science and gaps in literature on water quality and health impacts in relation to private well water.
  2. Address the current lack of synthesis and regional studies on private well water.
  3. Review content goal: 10,000 words, 3-4 figures, 3-4 tables.

Authorship

Authorship will be based on contribution and will follow the CRediT framework. The team agreed to maintain a collaborative and inclusive approach to authorship with aspects such as synthesizing, writing the original draft, and reviewing/editing.

Statement of Task

The draft Statement of Task was discussed among members and is as follows:

Describe the present state of the knowledge on well water research

Identify knowledge gaps in well water research and suggest how future efforts can focus resources to anticipate and respond to the needs of private well users in a changing climate.

Major themes relating to environmental, engineering, health effects, social, and political were discussed as targeted sections for the review. A theme sign-up document was created for experts in each area to commit to working on their respective sections. If you are interested in accessing this document to participate in the review, email Nicole Tripp (“nzt0046@[auburn.edu]”) .

Organization and Next Steps

  • Collate literature in a central repository organized by theme and heading using Google Drive.
  • Develop a conceptual model to work through that integrates themes.
  • Invite additional participants to contribute to sections relating to their expertise.

Expected Timeline and Working Session

  • Working Draft on July 23rd
  • 8-Week meetings for progress updates:
    • April 2 @ 2:30 PM (CST)
    • May 28 @ 2:30 PM (CST)
    • July 23 @ 2:30 PM (CST)
